Wallace Mausoleum, Saintfield

Rendered mausoleum built c.1780.  Rectangular in plan with a pitched roof.  Rendered finish.  Round-headed recessed inscription plaque to the east elvation.

The inscription reads 'The family burying place of James Wallace of Ravera built in the year 1780
Go home dear friends and cease from tears
We must lie here till Christ appears
Prepare for Death while time you have
There is no repentance in the grave'.

Condition

Significant failure of render to the roof with some plantlife recorded (2003).
