Walker Mausoleum (Nottinghamshire)

A gargantuan rock-faced mausoleum built in a primitive Greek Revival style with battered sides and block-like acroteria at the four corners. The triangular piece of stone which used to form a rudimentary pediment is now lying in the grass in front of the building.

The plaque on this mausoleum bears two inscriptions, one commemorating Sir Edward Samuel Walker of Berry Hill, Mansfield (1800-1874) and the other his wife, Dame Frances Valentine Walker (1813-1864).

Condition

Fair. Some of the stone is badly weathered and the ‘pediment’ is no longer in place (2002).
