History

Sir Ratan Tata (1871-1918), who owned, among other homes, York House at Twickenham, was a sensitive and artistic man. Particularly concerned about social issues, he “encouraged the University of London to institute a Chair at the London School of Economics to investigate and research into the causes of deprivation and poverty.” Having no offspring, he left all his property for the advancement of education, learning and industry.
