Sawey Mausoleum

Rendered mausoleum built c.1799.  Rectangular in plan with a convex roof.  Ruled and lined rendered finish.  Square-headed inscription plaque to the east elevation.

History

The inscription reads 'Hic ponitur corpus Gulielmi nominee Sawey pauperibus donat mriens qu(as) condidit opes. Hunc lapidem posuit Cathrine carissima conjux. Obiit 17 Januarii 1799 81 mo. (Translation: here lies the body of William surnamed Sawey. Dieing he gives what wealth he acquired to the poor. Catherine his most beloved wife, set up this stone. he departed this life on 17th January 1799, aged 81)'.

In overall good condition (2003).
