History

The inscription reads 'Laus deo. Sentam Sall, Familiare hoc sepulchrum anno salutis MDCCCXXV posuit Johannes Sall cujus majores a casella momoniae profecti anno MDCC Duni consederant, (translation: Praise be to God. John Sall, whose forbears having originated from Casella Momonia settled in 1700 in Down, erected this family tomb in the year 1825 for salvation)'.
The Sall mausoleum is virtually identical to the Kneown-Boyd Mausoleum at Kilclief - the two are likely to have been built by the same hand. The unpublished biographies of Ayneswerthy Pilson give a limited account of the life of Richard Keown whose father, Henry Keown, was a stonemason from the parish of Kilclief. It is plausable to suggest that Henry Keown built the mausoleum at Kilclief as his family vault - one might therefore attribute the Sall mausoleum to his hand.
