History

Daniel Nicols (1833-1897) was the proprietor of a Parisian wine and spirit business before he and his wife moved to England in 1863. Once here, they set up a very successful chain of restaurants including the Café Royal in London. The monumental mason responsible for the construction of the mausoleum was E Bingham of Fulham Road, London. He may also have been the designer.

Condition

Fair. The walls and roof look sound, but the condition of the traceried openings, all of which have been crudely blocked, does not appear good, and state of the door and interior cannot be seen (2006).
