Sir William Owen Lanyon (1842-87) was a colonial administrator who died in New York. He also had a house in London and he and his wife, Florence (d.1883), both have graves in Brompton Cemetery. So this ‘mausoleum’ is really a memorial chapel. It also contains a memorial plaque to Herbert Lanyon who was lost at sea in 1893.
