A very ornate octagonal mausoleum designed in the French Flamboyant Gothic style. It is built in Portland stone with a short spire, has much carved decoration and a bronze door with frosted glass panels. The relief in the tympanum shows the Risen Christ and below it are the words “EGO SUM RESURRECTO ET VITA”.

1919
The mausoleum was built by Major Robert Emmet DSO (1871-1955) seemingly after the death of his eldest son, another Robert (1897-1915) who served as 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Life Guards and died of typhoid. Major Robert Emmet was born in New York and was a great-great-nephew of the Irish patriot Robert Emmet. Romaine-Walker’s designs for the mausoleum were exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1919.
2002: Fair/good (2002).
2023: Condition reasonably good but evidence of some deterioration. Cordoned off presumably due to items falling from building (July 2023).
