Palmer-Morewood Mausoleum

A small Perpendicular Gothic Revival mausoleum built of sandstone with a low-pitched roof and parapet. The doorway has a shouldered lintel and the inscriptions on the side walls are framed by attached colonnettes with the same type of lintel.

History

Charles Rowland Palmer-Morewood (1843-1910) of Alfreton Park may have built the mausoleum following the death of an infant son, Anthony Constantine (1888-1889) as he was the first person buried there. Charles Rowland Palmer-Morewood and his wife, Patience Mary (1853-1914) are also interred in the mausoleum, as are the two children who survived them, Clara (1881-1955) who married Alwynne Mason, and Charles Rowland Arthur Palmer-Morewood (1879-1957).

Condition

Good. The mausoleum was taken down, new foundations put in and entirely rebuilt in 1997.
