Ian Dungavell grew up in Australia, and has a BA (Hons) in art history from the Australian National University. He came to England to work on his PhD in architectural history at the University of London. He has since completed a MSc in the Conservation of the Historic Environment at the College of Estate Management/Universityy of Reading. From 2000 to 2012 he was Director of The Victorian Society, the national charity campaigning for Victorian and Edwardian architecture, and since then has been Chief Executive of the Friends of Highgatye Cemetery Trust, the charity which looks after Highgate Cemetery. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and an Associate of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management.
